Processors can be found not only in the Node Control Cards, but also at I/O level with each chassis having dedicated Chassis Control Card.  Both Node and Chassis Control Cards have multiple CPU's that are dedicated to carrying out specific tasks and functions.

The Node Control Card has an Intel Celeron CPU for logic solving, a CPU for host/peer-to-peer and chassis communications and a CPU for inter-processor communications.

The Chassis Control Card also has multiple RISC CPU's, one for I/O scanning, another for memory management and SOE handling and a third one for dedicated communications.

Using multiple, dedicated processors, the RTP2500 achieves a screw-to-screw response time of 25ms, a logic solving scan time of 10ms and I/O scan pass time of 2ms.  As only event change data is passed during each scan pass, this ensures all points in the system are captured, processed and archieved simultaneously, regardless of criticality ratings, volume or redundancy.
