Pickling

This treatment is known as pickling and is in some occasions still done by using strong acids. Apart from the environmental downsides acids are difficult to handle because of its corrosiveness, and it is not applicable to all steels.

Hydrogen embrittlement becomes a problem for some alloys and high-carbon steels as hydrogen from the acid will react with the surface and makes it brittle and causes cracks.

The chemicals process Tyco uses is not corrosive and is not based on strong acids.
As part of the process we can protect the metal with a thin protective film preventing the metal from corroding until the vessel or pipework is put into service.

The chemical solution will be neutralized at completion of the chemical process.
