Overview

The ProtectoMist Volume Protection design philosophy is based upon proven live fire data. In the event of a fire, all the ProtectoMist nozzles in the protected space are released at the same time, completely filling the volume with a blanketing mist that quickly engulfs even shielded fires.

Post fire security of pool type fires can be enhanced when ProtectoMist is used in conjunction with AFFF foam that will maximise extinguishing performance against fires anywhere in the protected space.  Unlike gaseous fire suppression systems, on discovery of a fire, the system can be released immediately, without the need to evacuate all personnel. Trained fire fighting personnel can enter the space at any time to assess the situation.

Where a potential fire hazard may be localised, ProtectoMist frangible bulb systems ensure only those nozzles operate which are in the immediate vicinity of the fire. In rooms, corridors and spaces where light to moderate fire loads of ordinary combustibles exist, ProtectoMist frangible bulb systems deliver the fire suppressant water mist to the seat of the fire whilst avoiding wetting of the unaffected areas.

The small lightweight nozzles mounted at ceiling level each incorporate a quick response frangible bulb that shatters instantaneously once a predetermined temperature is reached. The operation of the frangible bulb releases water under pressure from the small bore ProtectoMist system pipework onto the nozzle deflector that produces and distributes the mist into the fire area.

A typical system may be divided into installations or zones serving several floors or fire zones. Typical applications would be similar to those based on International Maritime Organisation fire tests.
